Safer Swimming
Open water swimming is wonderful but it can also be dangerous, especially if swimmers are not aware of the risks.
For the safety of you and the other members of S.O.S. (who may be looking after your baby while you swim) it is essential that you read and follow the Safer Swimming Guidance below. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact hello@socialoceanswims.com.
S.O.S. Safer Swimming Guidance
Swim with another person whenever possible.
Enter the water gradually and let your body acclimatise before you go out of your depth.
Stay within sight of the shore and anyone who is looking after your children while you swim.
Wear a brightly coloured swimming hat and tow float to stay visible in the water.
Know your limits and do not take any unnecessary risks in the water.
Know how to signal for help and float to live.
Be aware of tides and rip currents and how to get yourself safely back to shore.
Use the Surfers Against Sewage Safer Seas and Rivers Service (mobile app) and try to wait at least 24 hours after a sewage alert.
Bring warm clothes for after you swim and know the signs of after shock.
If you are feeling unwell or have any unease about going in the water, stay on shore. There's always next time.
